Y2K days alert!! Released in the year 2000, here is some of the story behind my second album, Thrill.
The truth is, I could go on and on about every crappy guy I ran after, was fooled by, or whose bullet I dodged but in the end, some charming young man might spark a song but once the song is born, it’s all my creation from my imagination. Sometimes, the muse wants credit, and sometimes the muse wants to remain anonymous. Sometimes the muse has no idea. It took me a while to learn to keep my mouth shut. I’ve been written about but I do not take it personally!
Isn’t every portrait a reflection in a way? But I digress (again!). I felt like @bkehew2000, and I made something really special here because it was us working together from start to finish, rather than him saving a project that someone else abandoned. We were having fun, goofing around, and experimenting. There were a few years when I did not play “Pauline,” but now that it’s back in my life, I can’t imagine ever not playing it again. It’s the mistress singing to the main squeeze (opposite of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”), trying to convince herself that she’s “More than a memory”...an attempt to gain her footing and feel empowered. Do you think it worked?
Also on this record is “Too Bad About You,” which was requested during my summer tour, and I did my very best to remember it, though it has been more than a decade since I sang it. I am truly loving revisiting my old songs. They are memories, friends, lovers and while I’m singing these stories, the people who inspired them appear in my mind. I like lingering with the past for a minute from a much healthier vantage point.
